Magazine Review

The magazine i grabbed is very technology based. Most of the content is made up of advertisements and camera information for various brands. However there are still plenty of photographs to look at.

Each issue of this magazine contains sections named "Share your project" "Share your best shot" "Share your turn"and various "how to" sections. It also contains a few different competitions such as the macro one. My favorite section is the "Share your project" one.

 The picture that won the macro comp is called "Lip Lock" and it is of highly defined lips that are dripping with oil. I love this picture because of how defined it is. Also, I like that the photographer decided to use oil dripping from her lips because this is different from anything i have ever seen.

On the page labeled "Share your Project" a photographer took pictures of a wedding of Nigeria. This set of photos stood out to me because of the vibrant colors and dynamic patterns. The photographers name is Glenna Gordon and I have chosen to showcase my favorite photo of hers. 

UPDATE: While exploring her website, I found that she had a folder of pictures taken with her iphone and they were actually very good! Here is my favorite:

Glenna Gordon is a photographer known for her pictures taken in Africa. She currently lives in Uganda. She won many awards for her work on the abducted Nigerian school years. In 2006, she finished her master's in print journalism. Her pictures have been included in group shows in galleries, projections, containers and museums.

The higher the brightness rating, the whiter the paper will appear. 

ISO Brightness-

ISO brightness refers to the brightness of the paper as it would be perceived in an environment that is illuminated with a mixture  of cool white fluorescence and some unfiltered daylight. The flourescence in the paper will be stimulated more using the ISO standard vs the tappi.  

Tappi scale-

The brightness as it would be perceived in an environment that is illuminated with a mixture of wool-white fluorescence and some filtered daylight. The ultra violet component makes it the lowest of any standard. TAPPI will provide the lowest number of any of the scales. its numbers rarely exceed 100%.

I noticed that the ambient light differences were most noticeable in the first location because the room was lit a lot more and by natural light through the windows.

Step 15: Which photo do you like best? Why? 

I liked the close up of the single leaf! Its interesting because at first i didnt notice the water was frozen. It almost look like the drops are about to fall. Amazing colors as well. 

Step 16: Which is your least favorite image? Why?

The one with the stringy grass plant is my least favorite because its just too busy and lacks any rules. 

Step 17: Overall, make two positive statements about their pictures.
These all look very artistic and professional! 

I love that you took the opportunity to go shoot the ice day while others stayed at home because of the cold. Good photographers will fo out of their comfort zone like you!
Step 18: Overall, what is one area that this person could improve upon in your opinion.

Mabe find a way to make each of your pictures more unique. They all look very similar. New angles, different focus, ect. 

Painting Reproduction Peer Review

Step 10: How well did they reproduce the painting? Look at colors, posing, lighting, props, spatial distance. 

The colors, posing, lighting, and props are all spot on! The only thing that could have been better was the space underneath the girls chin was less than the painting. 

Step 11: Do you think the photographer did an acceptable job on recreating the image? What leads you to this analysis?

I think she did a very good job. The editing really stood out to me because it looks just like the painting! Like how it has a faint white overcast.. awesome.
