Types
of Paper for Print Show
The
first type of paper I will be discussing is Luster. Luster and semi-gloss are
very similar. This type of paper has many great qualities and can compromise
for glare, color range, and durability. Matte paper can tend to look more
flat or dull but with just a little shine, luster is sure to make images pop.
The best use for luster paper is for images that will be displayed in
complicated lighting situations where you want to avoid glare and get the most
color “pop” as possible. I chose to use this picture for the image of my sister
in the graveyard because I intended for the image to look duller so it would go
along with the solemn and creepy mood that the image already put off. It gives
the image a gray and somewhat sad feel and also makes the colors in the image
really stand out.
The
next paper I will be using is Metallic. Metallic paper is duper glossy and
gives of a sheen to your images. It is amazing to make colors pop and give a
very different- smoother texture to your images. Metallic creates a very real
look to the image and almost brings it to life/ makes it look 3-d. I chose to
use this paper for the image from a football game where the players are
bursting through the banner before coming on to the field. The metallic qualities
of the paper will really make the sunset and wide wash of colors pop and make
the entire image appear to be shimmering and glistening in the sunlight. I also
used this paper for the image of a ballerina dancing among books. The solid
black backdrop will be enhanced by the metallic and won’t look flat. Also, this
paper will help to make the image even more whimsical than it was even created
to be. Perfect touch!!
The
last paper type that I will be analyzing is semi-gloss. Semi-gloss is different
from luster because it is just ever-so-slightly glossier than luster. Even
though it is still not glossy at all. This paper is known for its ability to
make colors pop and give a beautiful finish to images. If I were to use this
paper I would use it for a portrait so that the subjects face does not appear
dull or flat. It would help their features to stand out and really bring out
the brightness of the image.
